About Jean-Michel Basquiat
Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960 - 1988) was an American artist from New York City who rose to success during the 1980s as part of the Neo-expressionism movement and he originally was a graffiti artist. Basquiat himself worked with Andy Warhol and from 1982 to 1983, Jean-Michel Basquiat was in a relationship with Madonna. Since Jean-Michel Basquiat death his work has steadily increased in value. In 2017, Untitled, a 1982 painting depicting a black skull with red and yellow rivulets, sold for a record-breaking $110.5 million, making it one of the most expensive paintings ever. This sale also set a new record for an American artist at auction.
