About Paul Cézanne
Paul Cézanne (1839-1906) was a French painter. Like his contemporary Claude Monet, Cézanne returned time and again to the same subjects, such as landscapes, still lifes with fruit, which he always managed to portray in new ways. Paul Cézanne also painted several self-portraits.

The Card Players
Between 1890 and 1896, Paul Cézanne painted a total of five versions of the painting The Card Players (French: Les joueurs des cartes), all of the paintings show men playing cards at a table. One version of the painting The Card Players is in the possession of the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, France in Europe. There are two almost identical versions of the painting, one owned by the Courtauld Institute of Art in London in the United Kingdom and the other privately owned. In 2011, the highest amount ever paid for a painting at that time was for the latter version, estimated at between 180 and 200 million euros. The other two versions of Les joueurs de cartes hang in the largest art museum of the United States the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the other in the Barnes Foundation museum in Philadelphia also in the United States from America.
