It is popular throughout the Alemannic German-speaking area of Europe, in parts of Switzerland, Liechtenstein, France, Austria, Germany, Italy and in a couple of states in the USA such as Wisconsin and Ohio. An estimated 3 million Swiss play Jass regularly and it has been described as a Swiss national card game. There are over 70 variants of the card game Jass and mostly they play Jasskarten with Swiss-German cards that use Swiss suits such as Bell (Schelle), Rose (Rose), Shield (Schilte), and Acorn (Eichle). However, the rules differ significantly from region to region.

These Jass playing cards Piatnik are made in Vienna in Austria from paper and have 36 Swiss-German cards (2, K, O, U, B (= 10), 9, 8, 7, 6) + 1 Blank Face card. These traditional Jasskarten come in a tuck case.
